Educational: Location, Location, Location - How To Choose Your Wedding Venue + What You Should Be Asking

Wedding planning can be a stressful situation! You can have a Pinterest board full of ideas but somehow unsure of where to exactly start the process.  Most couples are worried they will miss all the details or unsure of which questions they should be asking from the beginning.  This is especially not different when it comes to picking your wedding venue. Your wedding venue is one of the most impactful vendors for your wedding day vision. Your wedding venue will help you create your beautiful wedding day.

Here are a couple of things to consider when booking your wedding venue:

  • Budget and Amenities - The wedding budget is probably one of the biggest stressors. It is important for you to realistically pick a venue that fits within your total budget. You might find a wide range of pricing when it comes to venues. But it is important you pay attention to what the venue has to offer for you. Even if a particular venue package seems more expensive - it possibly can have more to offer you that can save you money.  Does your venue supply tables? Chairs? Tenting? Space for both ceremony and reception? Getting ready space(s)? Food? Alcohol? Or will you need to outsource those items with other vendors?  It is important to ask venues about all the amenities included to help you appropriately choose the venue that is right for your budget and wedding day needs.

  • Wedding Style/Vision - Do you have a wedding day style/vision in mind?  Choosing a wedding venue that meshes with your wedding style is important for your overall design.  An ideal esthetic can help you narrow down your venue search and help your Pinterest ideas come to life. If you are wanting rustic vibes you can most likely scratch off the indoor traditional ballrooms and narrow down your list even more to help you make an executive decision.

  • Capacity Limit vs. Guest List - Before securing your wedding venue it is imperative to have an estimated guest list to make sure the venue can accommodate your expected family and friends.  You might love a particular venue but if their occupancy is 150 people and you are expecting 300 guests - it would be better to find another venue and save yourself the headache of trying to figure out where everyone will be sitting on your wedding day or slim down your guest list.

  • Vendor Relationships - Vendor relationships are great! You might find your venue requires you to choose from a certain vendor list. While this can seem limiting initially it is actually to your benefit! Booking vendors that are familiar with the space can help your wedding day run seamlessly. If your venue does not require you to book certain vendors you can always ask if they have a recommendation list that can help you along the way with booking your wedding day team!

When it comes to booking your wedding venue it should be a great starting point to your wedding planning process. The venue will establish your wedding date and help you book other vendors.  Try not to stress out and just remember what is important to you on your wedding day!
